Archie Thompson netted home a well set up play to score Victory’s sealer in their 2-0 win against Bayswater City in the FFA cup. It was a night of firsts for the Victory, playing their first FFA cup match, winning their first FFA cup game and the first unveiling of their formidable attack which features Berisha, Barbarouses and Thompson. The trio were responsible for Victory’s first as they combined to put themselves ahead 1-0 in the 23rd minute, the goal going to Barbarouses. The second half saw Bayswater test Melbourne’s defense however it was never going to be enough as Berisha set up Thompson who had time to slot the ball into the bottom right corner of the net from just inside the penalty box, a tremendous show of composure from the veteran. The win see’s Thompson and his team progress through to the round of 16 stage.

Overseas and Josh Kennedy’s Nagoya Grampus have moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 win over a red hot Gamba Osaka side. Osaka had won 6 in a row and went into their home game as heavy favourites. However Grampus struck home in the 78th minute courtesy of Brazilian Leandro Domingue which see’s them go one win clear of the drop zone.
