Brisbane Roar and Wellington Phoenix were in the midst of a closely fought match when it came to a premature end due to the weather conditions. Not only did the match end early, but the result stood as is, that was Brisbane Roar 1-2 Wellington Phoenix in the 73rd minute.

A result like this was possible due to the A-League competition rule 22.22. This section states that:

“In the event of a match being abandoned at half-time or during the second half of the match due to adverse weather conditions or any other cause over which neither Club or Match Referee has control, the match result at the time of the abandonment will be declared the final result.”

Brisbane Roar fans are crying foul due to this rule. Do they have a case?
