⚽ Round 6 Wrap: Strong Wins and Spirited Efforts Across the NPL Boys Squads ⚽

It was a massive weekend of football for our NPL Boys squads, with four Murray United teams taking the field in Round 6 action. Despite a tough outing for our U17s, the younger age groups delivered dominant displays against Bendigo City, including a hat-trick hero, rock-solid defence, and some eye-catching team goals.

The CPL Girls enjoyed a well-earned break this weekend, but all teams will return to action for Round 7 next Sunday. Here’s how our NPL1 and NPL2 Boys fared on Sunday:

🔵 U17 Boys – Murray United 0 def. by Melbourne City 4

A tough result for our U17s, but one that certainly didn’t reflect the effort and quality shown throughout the match. Murray started strongly, controlling the game early through composed play from the backline. A breakdown from a corner in the 25th minute allowed City to capitalise, and a second goal soon followed via a classy finish.

Despite going into halftime down 3-0 after a controversial build-up to City’s third, the boys continued to push forward with confidence. Led by the midfield efforts of Archie, Thomas and Pieter, Murray held firm defensively in the second half and only conceded once more after pushing forward late.
High performance players: Archie, Oli, Pieter.

🔵 U14 Boys – Murray United 5 def. Bendigo City 1

A dominant display from our U14s, who continued their rise with a convincing 5-1 win in cold and wet conditions. The focus was on team goals, ball retention and recovery—and the boys delivered.

Andy Reckless set the tone with aggressive intent, netting two early goals, with Noah Brunec contributing after a smart follow-up. Bendigo found a rare opening but couldn’t crack our defensive trio of Chase, Michael and Cameron Harb.

Corner routines proved fruitful, with Michael Andrews Jr. converting after a rebound, while a Hunter Neville run earned a penalty confidently converted by Cameron. Hunter added one more to cap off a superb performance.

The boys now sit 2nd on the ladder—momentum is building.
Goal Scorers: Andy Reckless, Noah Brunec, Michael Andrews Jr, Cameron Harb (P), Hunter Neville.
High performance players: Andrew Reckless, Hunter Neville, Ruben Hackett, Cameron Harb.

🔵 U15 Boys – Murray United 3 def. Bendigo City 0

Returning to our former home ground at Latrobe due to the Vic Country Championships, the U15s were determined to bounce back—and they did just that with a clinical 3-0 win.

In slippery conditions, it was Xavier Rech who opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a Murray corner led to a Bendigo handball. The introduction of fresh legs, including players from the U14s, gave the team the spark it needed. Asher Royal and Tyla Singh finished off well-worked team moves to seal the win.

A big thank you to Cameron, Hunter, Ruben and Jimmy from the U14s, who stepped up with confidence and class.
Goal Scorers: Xavier Rech (P), Asher Royal, Tyla Singh.
High performance players: Tyla Singh, Archer Stow, Liam O’Connor, Prajin Khadka.

🔵 U16 Boys – Murray United 6 def. Bendigo City 1

Our U16s came into this one fired up after a recent draw against Bendigo—and it showed. From the first whistle, they dominated possession and played almost entirely in their attacking half.

Leroy Ogesare was the standout, netting four goals in a ruthless display up front, with Koby Shields and Prince Mvuka also getting on the scoresheet. The back five, led by Jonah, Mason, Lucas, Anu and Odin, provided the perfect foundation, while midfielders Koby and Jack kept the engine room running.

Even after conceding early in the second half, the boys bounced back instantly, showing maturity and resilience well beyond their years.

Special mention to U15 call-ups Jack Webb, Asher Royal and Bentley Fraser, who seamlessly slotted into the squad.
Goal Scorers: Leroy Ogesare (4), Koby Shields, Prince Mvuka.
High performance players: Leroy Ogesare, Koby Shields, Mason Godfrey, Anu Beloved, Lucas Quaill.
