📰 Murray United FC | Weekend Wrap – Sunday June 1st
It was another action-packed Sunday for our Murray United sides, with teams across both NPL and CPL competitions battling it out in tough away conditions. From hard-fought losses to spirited comebacks and dominant wins, here’s how our squads fared in Round 5 and 6 action.
🔵 NPL 1 Boys – U17
Final Score: 0-6 Loss vs Western United
It was a difficult outing for our U17s, who came up against a ruthless Western United outfit. Early defensive lapses and clinical finishing from the opposition left us trailing quickly, but to the boys’ credit, they regrouped and finished the game with more composure and attacking intent. Despite the result, the improved second-half effort provides something to build on as we prepare for Melbourne City next week.
High Performance Players: Buddy, Pieter, Nate
🔵 NPL 2 Boys – U14
Final Score: 5-3 Win vs Eltham Redbacks
Goal Scorers: Cameron Harb (2), Noah Brunec, Andy Reckless, Hunter Neville
Despite missing key starters, the U14s delivered another strong away performance. Quick ball movement and clever passing saw Noah Brunec open the scoring before a well-worked set-piece ended with a back-post finish from Hunter. Cam Harb added a long-range free kick and Andy Reckless sealed the deal with a goal and a won penalty in the second half. A gritty performance with plenty of character shown.
High Performance Players: Andrew Reckless, Lachy Pardy, Cameron Harb
🔵 NPL 2 Boys – U15
Final Score: 2-3 Loss vs Eltham Redbacks
Goal Scorer: Asher Royal (2)
An early goal from Eltham inside the first minute set the tone, but our boys fought hard to level through Asher Royal. A defensive error just before halftime gave Eltham the edge again. Despite a late penalty conversion from Asher to complete his brace, time ran out on our comeback effort. The result doesn’t reflect the boys’ determination and attacking intent.
High Performance Players: Liam O’Connor, Asher Royal, Christian Pasqualotto, Bailey Meredith
🔵 NPL 2 Boys – U16
Final Score: 3-2 Win vs Eltham Redbacks
Goal Scorers: Prince, Asher, E’Ka
After falling two goals behind in the first 13 minutes, our U16s mounted a brilliant comeback. Prince opened his account for the season just before the break, and Asher equalised early in the second half. With momentum on our side, E’Ka sealed the winner after some slick combination play. The boys managed the closing stages well and showed real unity and belief to overturn the early deficit.
High Performance Players: Lucas Quaill, Koby Shields, Prince Mvuka, Odin Hooper
🔴 CPL Girls – U13
Final Score: 4-1 Win vs Avondale
Goal Scorers: Matilda C (2), Tully G, Rowena R
The U13 Girls responded superbly after going behind early on a compact pitch. Tully’s goal helped swing the momentum back our way, and strong use of width and set pieces resulted in a convincing win. A great team performance and a proud moment for the coaching staff to see training ground routines pay off.
High Performance Players: Tully G, Zahlee M, Pamela D, Seara N
🔴 CPL Girls – U15
Final Score: 1-2 Loss vs Avondale
Goal Scorer: Rowena Rimal
A heartbreaking day in more ways than one. Our starting goalkeeper was ruled out just before kickoff, and despite early setbacks, the girls showed immense fight to equalise in the second half. A late goal from Avondale sealed the result, and the match ended with another medical emergency involving our second keeper—who thankfully is now OK. The girls showed strength, resilience, and togetherness through adversity.
High Performance Player: Sibel P
Impact Players: Dympna M, Achol D, Ruby O, Molly S, Alexis I
🔴 CPL Girls – U17
Final Score: 2-0 Win vs Avondale
Goal Scorers: Sade Selvey, Louisa Griffith
The U17 Girls were fired up and focused from the first whistle, combining intensity with tactical discipline. After a dominant first half, the pressure paid off with two stunning goals from outside the box—first from Sade and then Louisa. Our midfield trio was exceptional, and the team held firm to secure a well-deserved clean sheet. One of our best games yet!
High Performance Players: Sade Selvey, Louisa Griffith, Olive Fullwood, Ilaria Esposito
Cameos from U15s: Sibel, Ruby, Isla
Bench Support: Achol and Tully – thank you!
